I need a different type of website critique. I am currently thinking about changing the adsense layout of the entire site, and need some tips from ppl who have adsense on their sites. for the record, I have seen the google adsense demo on optimization tips for adsense. You cant beat having some input from real ppl though. I need the following: [along with anything else you can think of] 1. based on the current layout of my website, what would you recommend for adsense placement? 2. what about backgrounds that dont interfere with the text? 3. How do I make the article background white while having a normal background? |

Jess, A foreword. My words might sound mean at times. They don't mean to be. I'll try to be constructive with everything. First I've mentioned another forum here a few times, but it applies again. visit Digital Point Forums Off the top of my head. Switch Adsense to the right hand side. Many say try to make the Adsense blend in with the page. For your page I disagree, people want to visit your site as an authoritative site. Don't try to fool or mislead them. Your background. Either create more pictures and photos or get a background to offset it now!! Your site made me feel like I was reading a boring book. And I have a puppy, with the URL that includes 'Vet' makes you already sound prestigious, now you just have to sell it. Even online I expect books to have color links or something that makes it pop out, not in a gaudy way though. Look up CSS, it can add so much to your site, for such a little time investment. Also your readers won't help you with the background. It is also the wrong group to ask to help usually. Check a webmaster forum. Get an experienced designer to come up with a custom design and logo. Asking visitors always seems great. But for design issues they won't always(I'll venture to say rarely) provide valuable feedback. For your article question. Look into CSS again. Div ID will let you set up an article with a different background from the rest of the site. Most backgrounds should not interfere with the text. There are many ways to make them fade, so that they add to your site and aren't detracting. -OJ |

My 2 cents worth. First get rid of the I Need your Help paragraph, the whole thing, ditch it. you're giving pet advice and are going in for a vet technician, I expect you to know what you are doing, that includes your web site. This makes it look like you're just some kid without a clue. Your background is white, who cares? If you want to dress it up go ahead we'll be surpised when we get back. Make your text bigger you have it at 8, try 10 see how it looks, maybe boost to 12--depends how it looks. you have five spots to change it in. Right here in the code you will find: </HEAD> <BODY LEFTMARGIN=0 TOPMARGIN=0 MARGINWIDTH=0 MARGINHEIGHT=0 BGCOLOR="#ffffff" LINK="#0000ff" VLINK="#800080"> BGCOLOR="#ffffff" This is where you can change your color, change all the f 's; you have to make sure you leave in the # and " " or it won't work. You have to know what color you want though. No one is going to have fun looking for your background. probably you should just go with a nice subtle color. Move your ads down a bit. Center your heading. Stick some articles on the front page where we can see them. I just saw your disclaimer, maybe it would be a good idea to put it somewhere people will see it. No one is scrolling that far down. |
