Hey guys, I'm planning to start some type of computer shop, where people will be able to come and repair their computers. To be discrete, I want to make the new business act more like a franchise -- where there's going to be an Operations Manual that my employees will have to follow. This should make the business a more... automatic. I also want to pay more attention to my costumers. The fact is that I've never seen (locally) a small computer repair shop business which really, doesn't lie and care about its costumers. Many of 'em really care about making profit. Do you have any suggestions about what I am talking about here. Will OM work and does it worth to care more about the costumers than about profit (I predict profit will follow costumer's satisfaction). You opinions matter most to me, Thank you. |

"To be discrete, I want to make the new business act more like a franchise" "Do you have any suggestions about what I am talking about here." Yea, I've got a good idea of what you are talking about and so does Best Buy with Geek Squad, and so does Circuit City with FireDog then there are mobile franchises like geeks on call, nerds on call then there are the local businesses. I wouldn't let this get you down. In my town there are 3 computer shops within a 1/2 mile of each other. They have been in business for years. If you are serious about starting this business then I would do some market research. See how many computer shops are in your area and what your customer demographic is. Your local SBDC can help with this along with SCORE. An interim idea is to work out of your house and place your ad in your local craigslist or newspapers. Build a customer base and bootstrap your business. Use the money to put into a bigger store in the future. |
