Default Events Planning - Part Time Business?

I am interested in starting a part-time Event Planning business. I have a number of questions however about the idea, these are:
  • Are there any qualifications that would be useful?
  • What are the start-up costs likely to amount to and what are they?
  • Is it possible to start the business on a relatively small budget, say sub £1200
  • Is the business idea practical at all considering that I have no car which could make dealing with vendors and getting to locations of events difficult?
  • What is the possible income for an event planner if I built the business part time now and expanded it to full time possibly including taking on additional staff?
  • Is it worth specializing in a particular area, for example, corporate events?

Any input on the above would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Carl

Sorry, I am unsure whether it is possible to edit a message on these boards so I will have to reply to this.

I have been considering this again and have come up with another idea, I like the idea of a Virtual Assistant Business. I think this would be much better as it is less likely to require transport. I have a wide variety of computer knowledge such as MS Office however I don't have much office experience however, is this essential? I could possibly break into the industry through low introductory prices. What would the potential earnings be and is it wise to limit yourself to a specific geographic region?

I guess i'm looking for somebody with knowledge of what working as a virtual assistant is like to provide me with more information really. I've read a few articles but haven't seen anything that answers what i'm asking.

Hi Carl10,

It's kind of hard to find information on specific career choices on the internet sometimes. Luckily, there's still lots of books about the careers you're looking at. For example, there's this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Virtual-Assist.../dp/0974279056

If you search for the terms virtual assistant or event planning on Amazon.com, you should find a lot of books that may help you. You can narrow down which ones to buy based on reviews, or you can see if your library has them.
