Default Job talents

There is some research that correlates job satisfaction with use of talents. I'm not sure I understand what talents are in relation to a job. How are talents different from skills? Can anyone give any ideas on this? What talents do you have that you use on the job?

Thanks!

Most people don't value my non-stop chatter as a skill. As they say in my department: "You talk like a f***ing machine gun." (Love you too, boys!)

However, it IS a talent that I never let a conversation die. I talk to everyone from engineers to construction workers, and being able to be comfortable in any conversation, remember endearing nicknames (and which one goes to which person), and generally have fun has served me really well in this job.

My friend R has the unique talent to make anyone she deals with feel like her favorite. Not really a skill, but a USEFUL talent, especially in interviewing, for the boss to think you really adore them as a person.

What research are you speaking about? There are a lot of people in the field of learning that don't use the word tallent anymore.

Good question! I guess I wasn't quoting research as much as books written on the subject of finding a job. I'd be interested to learn more about what you are saying. What do they talk about instead of talent?

Thanks for your input.

10.000 hours (ten years) of deliberate practice allow you to be a top class expert in any field.

Back to the topic of finding a job:
Find something that you can be passionate about. That allows you to put the energy into it that you need to become world class. (Steves actual Podcast also covers that topic)

People used to say that to me - "Find what you are passionate about". It took me years to actually figure out what that was, until I read that the things you do (or would do) for free are the things you are passionate about. That made sense to me.
What is it that you would do for free...or are doing at the moment? They are the things you are passionate about.
