| I know someone that has $100,000 in a bank and he feels very "safe" and is getting 3% interest. Now then......he is getting 3% and inflation, according to uncle Bush, is 3.5% (in reality is 16%) so that right there this guy is loosing money, also he could invest it in something safe that would pay a return..... loosing twice. What to do?...... because I am a "survivalist" that's the way that I think all the time. Invest in food.....say what? food only sits on the shelf and do nothing. Oh yeah?.....let me tell you, you could buy a Can of Chile Con Carne for $1.00 and in two months it goes up to $1.25, right there you made a profit of 25% but you also bought it when they had it on special for 0.75 cents so that in your future you already made a 50% profit.....let's say now that TSHTF and you need something that someone has and he is willing to trade it to you for your can of food.....right there you made many times over your original investment. And do you really think that this guy's $100,000 is safe in the bank? YES YOU SAY, the money is insured for up to $100,000 dollars.....well, I got news for you, if everything goes down at the same time there is only 0.02 cents for every $1.00 dollar deposited...... and besides that, how much do you really think that the fiat will be worth?. Remember Germany?, Brazil, Rhodesia and so on. "If you don't hold it, you don't own it"... Ponce

| If you don't care for others then you don't care for yourself. Besides, this is not really about him but about all of those of you here who bich and cry because you don't know what to do.....what is to come will be 100 times worse than in 1929 and unless you are ready you and yours will suffer a lot. If you think "what the hell is this guy talking about?" then I am doing something by making you think and that's what I am really traying to do. Do you have food for at least two years? water? weapons? first aid? transportation?......how secure can you make the general area where you are at? To me the best place to be at WTSHTF would be in Cuba because they have been living like WTSHTF for the past 40 years, in Cuba it took a few years for TSHTF conditions but here in the state it will be in a matter of months if not weeks. Do you know what you should have in stock? I just to go to Cuba every six months and was able to learn how they trade in the black market in order to obtain what they really need...... there is a lot to talk about if you people really would like to get ready, I can help. "To be ready is not"... Ponce

| I feel that the probability of a catastrophic event like this which would include the collapse of, not only the banking system, but pretty much everything to be really low. I mean, sure we are all taking the risk of NOT investing in non-perishable food, but the risk is so low its almost negligible. I think that if it does happen, all the rules go out the window and when people find out you have two years of food saved up, you'll have a LOT of people to fend off. John Maynard Keyes said, "In the long run we're all dead." We're all used to a modern market where everything is readily available, so I'm sure that you are right to an extent. You can laugh at us all if the world does collapse.

| wow that was strange. I had never seen flaming on this forum until now. anyway 3%, probably better that in a box buried in the backyard. Still if I had that kinda money sitting around that I didn't need in the immediate future It would very quickly find its way into a managed fund. Heh heh, I have a managed fund with a financial institution, the funny thing is that I borrowed the money from them to invest with them. |

Country's are build on trust. That the govermants gurantees that nobody breaks into your house and that it keeps the money valuable. That might not work in each case, but in general the amount of people that break into your house to steal a can of Chile Con Carne are equally small to the chance that an hyper inflation destroys your money.

If an earthquake hits your house tommorow, you're dead. If a nuclear bomb hits your city, you're dead. If an asteriod a few miles across hits the earth, we're all dead. Even one tiny and pesky virus can spell your doom if it gets into your bloodstream at the "right" moment. And guess what? There's nothing you or I can do about it. Absolute physical security, which seems to be the thing you're looking for, is an unattainable goal. |

| Seriously, why do so many people see these forums as a blog? And I don't mean an A-list blog that brings up great ideas every week; more like a blog about how to make $5000/day, live forever with magnets, and meet Jesus this weekend (I can't give any examples of such blogs due to an outbreak of sanity). |
