Default Site Critque

Main Page - Libregamewiki

It is a wiki about Free games, not freeware(some people like to believe it is about freeware games). I got about more than 100 articles, almost 2,000 edits. It is one of the few website that is hardcore about being a Free content site. It is also one of the most liberally licensed copyright content site on the world wide web.

I made the front page of digg, got 50,000 pageviews and horde of visitors, and make more money in one day than for almost an entire month of August.

It is the most popular website I ever operated.

I guess that count for something.

But I am dismayed about the the conversion rate of contributors. We got so few contributors and yet so many visitors. I have no idea if the traffic surge will bring some long term traffic. I have no idea if it will meet my expectation of massive potential.

I guess the obvious is to improve contents, get a logo, maybe a different skins or two and continue to promote the wiki to the Free software and the Free gaming community.

But is there more to this than these simple actions? How could I improve the site in other way?

What incentive are you giving people to contribute? Not all incentives are financial, some people want to contribute for psychological reasons. What sort of psychological rewards will they get for contributing, and how can you maximize visitors' knowledge of those rewards?

Ooh, my advert's up there!
Not really a promotion thing, but consider having a skyscraper ad instead of a banner. In my experience, they've taken about ten times what banner ads take.

If it does, it would be nice but I felt it is more annoying. I have to balance money making and visitors' needs/wants.

You're getting a great deal for the price there.. Thousands of pageviews in one day for a mere 2 cents.

Default User Stats

Hey Kiba,

Have you thought about adding in user stats to the site at all?

Here's a link to a short post about it over at webmaster world. User Stats for Community Members

If people can see more activity/what's going on, it may help spur more into contributing.

Just a quick thought

Recent activity already show activities, though it would be a good idea to see who contributes the most. If user activity produces friendly competiton, I am all for it!

I need to find an extension for user stats..

Recently, traffic are dropping. I'll give a week or two to see if it is permanent. Meanwhile, I am on the road to earning 1.80, following an exponential trend(income is doubling every month). If it keep on, about a year, I will reach minimum wage and than my goal of 30,000 dollars.

I doubt my wiki would be able to follow that exponential trend all the way to the goal.

Right now, I am concerned about not being able to retain visitors.

Though, I get return visitors, I have no idea if people are actually enjoying the site contents or not. They also seem to be proportional to the traffic I receive.

On most articles, the wiki lack much information, and lack of contributors mean they're not enthusiastic.

Also, I got very few hard core contributors. I only got 1 that keep working at this site. He probably even edited more than me. Just the two of us mean that this wiki is very dead. Though we got a few contributors that contributes some code sometime.

I know it must have something to do with our content. This meant our wiki's content must be surpeme, not just better than wikipedia, but cover more than what wikipedia covered.
