Thumbs up Whoa I got on Lifehacker

Nice. I'll have to check the traffic logs when I get home. I hope my host doesn't suck.

I got a final number: 5249 unique visitors from Lifehacker yesterday. Cool stuff. It was fun watching the stats.

Congrats. Henry, did you submit the story or was it submitted by a friend of yours (if they weren't before, no doubt they are now)?

Haha. Yeah. I just thought of it and it magically manifested. Heh.

I sent the article into Lifehacker. It was a quality post but more importantly, it was timely since performance reviews are around the corner for the people who work for the man.

I don't send too many articles into Lifehacker (I've only sent in 2). I heard of some people who submit everything they write and then get their email blacklisted.

Congrats! Wow, the number is making me dizzy and drooling..and it's only 1 day! OMG!

Hmm, it's really a matter of knowing when to blog about issues that matters to people most at the time that matters most. Nice. Thanks for sharing Henry!

I couldn't agree with this more. I think it's something a lot of people trying to be serious bloggers who are looking for traffic miss out on.

What are people really hungry to know about in your niche? What are they just dying to read about?

You can learn a lot just by scanning forums like this one and easily find what people are stuggling with or are hungry for.

That's great! I got on the front page on del.icio.us once, which also send lots of traffic that day (about 10K), however, traffic has declined to about 1000 a day since then. Wish I'd get more than the $0.40 a day on adsense there. (Any tips?)

I'm very interested in hearing how your traffic develops over a few days. My traffic dropped immensely after it disappeared from the front page.

Not on Lifehacker yet (although I've never submitted anything to it, which probably has a lot to do with it ), although I've been hit by StumbleUpon a few times. From what I can tell, it's a similar type of traffic spike; with the level of traffic following the spike a little higher than the level beforehand.

Spikes can definitely help with long-term growth.

yeah so far the spike is about 750% higher than normal. They really brought the numbers.

Hrmm, perhaps we have a stumbleUpon submission traffic spike session with some friends here! to help us generate mad traffic. heh

Out of interest, how many people submit their own stuff to sites like Lifehacker and StumbleUpon (and the many other high traffic sites known to cause large spikes)?

I do, as it is called SMO, Social Media Optimization. Its like SEO, Search Engine Optimization... any webmaster who wants traffic has to find ways to use todays Social Network sites to help them build traffic. It makes sense to me.

However, i have had a few people submit articles for me! :-)

Travis, SMO sounds great. Do you now have a set routine for submitting to the various sites, or does it just depend on the article in question?
