Blog Directory Refusal I created my own simple blog on my website. I did a search and found lots of blog diectories. So I submitted to some (just started doing it). Some are reviewed by people and some are not. One approved my blog. Another did not and sent this. Not including the first option, which would apply to me or should I just notify them that they are wrong. Submitting to directories does help to generate traffic to a blog, right? Quote:
Also I have another question. Do you know a place that will rent me a domain name (not Yahoo), even one that I already have, for no more than $10 a year and will let me do things with it like forward it to another site or let me have another server/site host the site for me? |
Site is not a blog, could be. You lack an RSS feed. One can't link to single blog posts etc. |
I wouldn't let it get to me, mine was rejected by a bunch of directories too, despite using wordpress software. Quote:

Thanks for the answers. I guess it is like submitting articles but when they do not accept the article, they do not let you know. I have articles published on over a hundred sites. But there are many who never put them up. I do not know if this is any good but one guy says that at these directories, look for blogs similar to yours and put up a comment with a link. But he says you have to have some good content in the comment and be nice about putting up a link. I would like to ask what is an effective way to get traffic to a blog, but if people know that then they would not be saying that it is difficult to make money with a blog. At least these links to my blog will help me rank higher with search engines. If you do a Google search for "losing weight" in the U.S., they list millions of sites and my site (phifoundation.org) comes up #1 on that list. Is Steve Pavlina from the US or Great Britain? I bought my domain names but have to pay $10 a year to keep them. I have only been on the internet for 2 years so a lot lof these things I do not understand. |
Well, then. Your site isn't a blog, they're right. A blog has a true database background and provides an RSS feed that updates itself. I'm sure your content is great. Why not install Wordpress? Go to Wordpress.org It's so easy to install, even I could do it. Just make sure your server has PHP and SQL. (most do nowdays) Then you can begin to transfer your content over into entries. This is just a transition. |
As far as it not being a blog, here is a Wikapedia's definition of a blog: "A blog (a portmanteau of web log) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order." I saw in a book about blogs that it can be created with simple html. I do not think that my server handles PHP. I tried one once and it did not work. I do not understand how RSS works or what it is even though I know the definition. Does Steve's blog use wordpress? |
Steve uses wordpress. He lives in Las Vegas. Quote:

You write qualiy content. Then other people or digg/del.ici.us/etc, link to your quality posts. That drives visitors to your site. If the visitors like what the get they subscribe. Then they might build a loyal readership, that inturn promotes your content. Unfortunatly nobody can link to a single blog entry on your website. In addition your readers can't subscribe to your blog because it lacks RSS. Quote:

Thanks. To use wordpress I would probably have to find another host for my website and I do not want to do that. What you say makes more sense then saying it is not a blog. It is a blog but will not be effective at getting a lot of traffic. I first got a blog on Google's service (blogspot) but I could not add another post. Maybe that is from having dial up service. Can blogs that are on those blog sites (like blogspot) do well? Here is that blog where I cannot add another post. Maybe I should find another place like blogspot or should I get another domain with a host that takes PHP. Also the posts on my blog are short and I do not place them daily or even twice a week. I have an information website that if you do a Google search for "losing weight" it comes up first on that list (phifoundation.org). The blog was to create more content and get some extra traffic to my website. I heard on TV that this guy who created a blog about celebrities just as a hobby, now gets millions per day to his blog. Plus he now interviews celebrities and said that he could not even imagine something like that when he started his blog. I have only been on the internet for 2 years so all this is a lot to learn. Mostly due to the Google search mentioned above, I get about 1,000 vistors a day to my website. Thanks again for the attention to help me grow to be strong and beautiful. |

For that reason the blog directory people say: "That's no real blog." Quote:
I don't know of a blog on blogspot that does well. It is probably possible to do well there but it is a lot more difficult than having your own domain. |
When they say it is not a blog, what they really mean is it does not mesh with how their system interfaces with the common blog software. If you refuse to use blogging software, you will be at a huge disadvantage. Yes, Steve uses Wordpress. If you just want a platform, you can use the hosted solution at wordpress.com, you can eve have your domain name forwarded to it now, I believe. One big disadvantage is the lack of customization. This may come down to if you want to meet your goals (having a blog), you will have to change what you are doing (staying with your current web host). By the way, I have 4 blogs, all which get decent traffic and provide me a decent monthly income, and I have never submitted to any blog directory. |
