Before I came here I started a website about endurance sports mostly Ironman triathlons. I came here to learn how to be an early riser. Then I became interested in making some money off my website. Today at work I thought why would anyone be interested in what I have to say? What could I say or do to keep people wanting more. I am not a star athlete. Why would anyone seek my advice? This is not ment to sound like I am depressed but I just need to come up with some ideas to make people want to come back to my website for more. Anyone have any ideas? I feel I am a borderline above average to average athlete in my sport In my age group I make the top 20. But with starting my webpage and wanting to make money has fueled me to be a better athlete since I am selling myself. 2007 race year is over for me but I am already making big plans and workingout to have a breakthrough 2008 race year. Maybe my plans of making serious money off my website will not begin till I show some top ten finishes at a few races. Thanks for your time |

Hi Ninja, My question is can you write well enough to keep me intrigued and wanting more? Also if you have such a breakout year planned are you starting to write about that? Can you define a couple things for me:
Being an authority on something is always nice, but isn't always what hooks the most return viewers. If your that into triathlons you probably subscribe to a few magazines in the field. Your goal of placing top 10 is great, but how many articles do you read by runners in the top 10? This is an honest question, as it's not my arena I have no idea. But writers/journalist that cover a subject don't always have to place top amongst the competitors. -OJ |

They want to know, what made it possible for your to become one of the elite... one of the top achiever... That is what they want to know... but your success in blogging will be due to your ability to write in such a way that it will inspire people... that it will bring something new and fresh to the table... Having something to say is one thing... but saying it in a way that is interesting, exciting and motivating is another thing... You've made it to the top 20 in the Ironman triathlons... now, the question is... "Can you make it in the top 20 bloggers...???" There lies your next challenge... and the path that will lead you to your dream... . | |

Most people aren't star athletes, so they should be more able to identify with you and feel able to reach whatever accomplishments you manage. If something works for you, people can be more confident that it will work for them too, than if you'd started off always being the best athlete.

I say, hook up with people who are at the level you aspire to, get them to mentor or coach you, or at least agree to be featured on your website as an interviewee. If you feel you don't have authority or lack credibility, "borrow" it from others who do have it. This is what Mike Litman did and the Chicken Soup guys did and they became recognisable names in the self improvement industry. |

Need to do some corrections first. I should of said I finish in the top 20 in my age group in smaller races not Ironmans only in two Ironmans and they were small. If I finished top 20 in an ironman especailly a well known one I would be big. I ask my wife the same question too. I gotta say to be honest I started this to brag about me. Yeah I am a show off. But another thing came to mind lately. I want to make the word Enduranceninja be a title people use for someone who is an endurance Junkie. I want a cult following of people who do crazy acts of endurance such as ironmans and 200 mile bike races with the occasional ultramarathon. Sorry gotta crazy there. To sum it up I want people to say those enduranceninjas are crazy @#$%. So far I am the only one, but I will recruit others. I plan to add a page the tells what an endurance ninja is... I am trying to get away from making my webpage all about me but more group like. I still want my fame too of course. so there will be some stuff on me. I guess like here but more about endurance sports. Wow thanks guys I think I am having a break through as we speak.

| I hope that this breakthrough is about integrity... without it... no writer will ever succeed in getting a message across... Readers will always be thinking, "If he was not completely honest about one thing... what makes us think that he will be honest about anything else..." You can't fake honesty... either you is or you is not... . |

Remember that blogs don't always have to be about the past. You can start a blog about something you want to do, and as you write about the process it may attract people with similar goals who can actually contribute to the discussion instead of just "receiving wisdom from the master". This also creates more of story through the blog because people can see your progress, and compare your eventual accomplishments to where you started.

EnduranceNinja, there are four things that make me interested in hearing what someone has to say in a blog or otherwise: 1 -- Inspiration. You're committed to making a difference. 2 -- Entertainment. You make me laugh, enthall me, or otherwise entertain me. 3 -- Enrichment. You are talented at nurturing within me the things that are important to me: joy, peace, love, freedom, connection, flow. 4 -- Education. You're telling me something I don't know, or opening up a new way for me to look at something. In a blog, this one usually has to include 1, 2 or 3 as well; I'd just look it up in an encyclopedia if I want dry facts. best wishes and lots of breakthroughs to you. |
