Yup. Not to say that self-reliance is bad, of course! It, too, can be a great thing, depending on the circumstances.

I think the key is to go with whatever mixture of independence, dependence, and interdependence works for you, and any other people involved, as individuals. And the exact mixture that works best will usually change many times over the course of one's life, sometimes when you expect it, sometimes when you don't. It's not an aspect of life that can be neatly generalized about. It's one of those richly nuanced and highly subjective areas, like selfishness vs. selflessness.
