The reason those experiences still bother people is because it's not a conscious decision to be bothered by it or not. Like anything else, we learn based on what our senses give us. When a person is bullied, they might come to the conclusion that being around a particular person is unsafe. Depending on how bad it is or how long it lasts, they might even come to the conclusion that
people are unsafe.
