A particle or "electrolyte" has "pulling" or "retaining" power...
So, the potassium goes inside the cells and keep the water there... while the sodium stays outside the cell and keeps some water there also...
When the two are balanced... we have homeostasis (optimum condition) when we don't we usually feel thirsty...
