I've been playing around with this myself for the last couple months, and I find I get the best results whenever I just state my intention and then release it. I decide what I want, put the intention out there, and then trust that the universe will bring it. I like to think that the second I intend something, it's already in "escrow" waiting for me (as Esther Hicks puts it). For a while I thought I had to spend some time each day focusing on what I wanted. I didnt get very good results with that.
For instance, the other day, I put out the intention that I wanted to be appreciated more at work. That same day, I went into work, and soon found out that a patient had written a note to my manager praising me for all the help I had given her. I have been at this job for over a year and that's the first compliment I've gotten. Or... a while ago, I put out the intention to find a daycare for my son. The one we had just visited didnt have any openings. The next day, I got a phone call that a spot had opened up.
These are the only one I can think of now... I think it happens a lot more than I realize, and I will think to myself, "Man, that is so cool! I can't believe that just happened..." but then I'll forget about it. lol.
I would try putting out the intention for something small. I dont know if money is the best way to go either, because most people have a lot of issues with money to begin with. That is going to trip you up and make you doubt yourself. Try putting out the intention of having green lights all the way to work

That's one of my favorites. On the days that I intend it, it almost ALWAYS works. And I have a lot of stop lights on my way. Just think about what you want. BELIEVE that you deserve a quick, easy commute to work, KNOW that you can create whatever you desire, and TRUST that the universe is bringing it to you. Then let it go. And have fun with it.
