I always had a problem with "there is only good through contrast" thing. I rebel against it, because I feel deep in myself that it is possible to live without suffering, with only pure joy as a general state, and I feel that the contrast idea seems to suggest we can never, or should never get to that state.

I'd also say that the wars and genocides are not beautiful or wonderful. What is beautiful and wonderful is the free will to do those things. When people wake up enough to discover they can choose something else, though, it would be much more beautiful if they did rather than fell back into the old patterns.

I guess I probably agree - or would agree - with Steve's message, though it seems like he's very deliberately trying to stir people up with his delivery.
