This is all great advice--I would add two more thoughts both based on the difference between doing what you want to do and doing what you think you have to do. I'm not disciplined enough
I think this idea comes from the fact that we are trained to believe that work is unpleasant. This is only true if you haven't found the right work for you. The people making the most money (or as Steve would say--value) technically work all the time, but they don't dread it like the average Joe--they've found a way to make money doing something that is fulfilling for them, beyond the money.
So if you decide to work for yourself it won't be as hard to make yourself "work" as it can be at your current job because your motivation won't be coming from fear or duty (well maybe a little duty) but from joy. I don't like to sell
Again, my guess is you don't like to sell things you don't believe in. Of course you don't! Most people don't. But when you really love or believe in something you "sell" it all the time, with out really thinking about it. Do you brag about your children? Do you send your friends links to funny things you see on the internet? At their core, these are forms of selling. The trick to being good at sales, is to find something worth selling.
