Also, let's not forget Steve majored in two subjects he excelled at: computer science and mathematics. Steve was exploring and computing his own fractal patterns at age 15, consistently scoring straight As and was often working on advanced Math way ahead of his peers. His parents probably played a huge role in shaping his academic success, with one being a math school teacher and the other a rocket scientist (literally).

Steve already had the raw brain power and experience in the above subjects to dominate the course load (at a state university). From my perspective, 90% was his innate ability (his innate "Mathematical" intelligence) and 10% use of his "Power".
