Not four months ago, my good friend's long-distance girlfriend committed suicide, and I was talking to my friend about it when I felt a very definite presence.
It was her, and she wanted me to tell him that she couldn't wait to see him where she is, and other things that I was embarrassed to hear but said to him anyway.
He had also had a near-death experience, and had been in that overwhelming light, so he totally understood what was happening, and I had the most incredible feeling of being another person, sharing in this amazing relationship that I'd otherwise have never had business in.
So I totally agree with your concise interpretation of death and its effects.
Also, I feel like karma is really a lot like points in a video game that you use to upgrade your later incarnations - not your place in the afterlife.
