Good question.
The truth is, you don't need to worry about whether it's working properly.
In fact, the reason my experimental sunlight within my girlfriend didn't work 100% was because she was doubting that we were really connected.
The imagination is nothing but a connection to the higher realms. The way to know that there is a connection is to simply try something simple like the following:
Next time you get a bruise, put your hand(s) over the bruise and concentrate on visualizing the bruise inside your body. It helps if you already know the anatomy of the area bruised, and how the skin there would be repaired.
Visualize this process and then imagine it speeding up.
Now, visualize an ethereal anaesthetic coming into the area, so you feel no pain there.
The more pure your concentration, the faster you'll heal, and the less you'll feel the pain.
