Should have mentioned: Zen and several other varieties of Buddhism do not recognise survival of the self-ego (Atman) after death of the body. Many varieties, however, do, even though the Buddha, in The Sutra of Forty-Two Chapters, was said to say, "... there is no such thing there known as ego ... it is like unto a mirage."
