This sounds like auto hypnosis in a way. Imaging certain effects in the body. Right?

You can actually use the intentional chi motion to defy your center of gravity. I use it to basically lean completely in a given direction without falling, and then lean the other way without really using much energy.
Cool! They say that chi is what directs the mind which directs the body, or something like that.

As for the solar plexus:

- The opening of the heart for my girlfriend's point of view is essentially a preparation to open a chakra.
- The belly warmth is the symbolic opening and use (simultaneous) of the solar plexus.
Nice. I guess I relate to this as something of a paying attention to a part of the body and allowing relaxation to occur so that the body energy is not blocked. And any mind imagery will accentuate this as your mind will be involved instead of thinking about what for lunch.

I was lying in my bed with my back all twisted and not at all symmetrical...

I've never been one for mudras or anything like that, but if you use it, it's a good idea to keep your back straight and your balance perfect.
The taiji stuff is very much about alignment and balance, in fast that's most of it for a long time and it requires the mind pay attention to the body. The idea being that with mind focusing on the body and your awarness staying with the mind and body to get alignment, then you are using spirit to move. I'm just starting to get into the principles but it is about alignment of the mind, body and spirit - which is an opening to oneness.
