While there are many reactions which would be a lot worse, don't you think laughing in their face and walking away is still a bit rude? If you have as many "high status behaviors" as it seems compared to this other person, shouldn't it be easy to make them realize how foolish their "low status behaviors" actually are (even if you have to be a bit harsh about it)? That certainly seems preferable to ignoring the problem; by doing the latter, you're really no better than the 99.9% of the world population which suffers from an illness known as Apathy.
Think about it.
