It sounds like a kind of bi location or projection. As far as physiology is concerned the Temporal Lobe region of the brain is partly resposible among other things for our ability to recognize faces but especially familiar ones, inability to achieve this is a condition called Prosopagnosia. Do you only see yourself when you do this or can you percieve others in a different light as well?
