I test conscious choice by making one and observing what happens, but you have to remember, consciousness being the awesome cosmic force isn't interested in full acknowlegment of power for it knows that ends the game.
We can claim back some or most of our power, but consciousness will always maintain the illusion/perception/reality and stablise randomness. There's no point in it being completely predictable, that's for consciousness in it's perfect state.
Actually a test (if there was one) would undermine the ego and while just a creation, consciousness is very proud and loves very much the observation point and the observer. As for who's driving? Taking a back seat doesn't mean to stop your humaness, it just means to identify more with creative power instead of denying it.
