I am a firm believer of the necessity of goals.

I think you are aware of the fact that the main purpose of goals should be to provide a certain quality for the present moment as opposed to I'll be happy/fine/whatever if I finally reach them (as far as I remember this is Steve).

Another thing is that goals are absolutely necessary but may not be enough alone. I'd suggest you to take a look at David Allen's GTD system which not only gives you a framework for defining your goals but actually provides principles for accomplishing them. You can read my thoughts regarding this system here (you should start with David's second book too). Regarding GTD and goal setting, Google the 6 level model for reviewing your work.

As for the questions you posted, I think they are more detailed than necessary. But that might turn out as a good thing too.
