I agree. I think an understand of where these rules have come from might help. Some rules, likely most of the rules people don't like are born as a knee jerk reaction to some event. When something goes wrong society choose to blame someone, more often than not that someone is the government. The government, over time, gets the idea that since they get the blame for all these things that the people want them to legislate their lives to 'protect' them. As the government legislates in this manner it perpetuates society's beleif that the government must make them safe and so they blame the government for more things... and so on

As far as changing things, I believe the government reflects the mood of society. If we are to change the way things work we would need to change the way society understands the government. Part of the problem with this is that a large portion of society don't care enough and a large portion don't know what they can do about it.

I said in another thread that the government should be running the country for the people, not running the people for the country. The people on a whole need to start seeing the government as their assistant in running the country, not their boss.

If enough people want it, the government will change. I'm with you on this one but what is it exactly you want to do?
