I'm not following your thread in detail but this jumped out at me. It is noble of you to be willing to sacrifice yourself for a child but what if you could go on to live and save 25 other people whereas the child saves no one? I don't think there is a "right" answer just as I don't think there's a "right" answer about how much to give or spend. I think you have to come to a point where it
feels right and you go with it. Plus you can continue to adjust over time if what feels right changes.
