Personally I used to be sick once a week or at least twice a month when I was a kid. Now I wouldn't go recommending this to someone who is bothered with a few colds then and then, no, but I had to remove my tonsils in order to reduce the viruses that got into my throat. For someone who has severe troubles with diseases and such, this could be an option. As for as speeding a recovery goes, oh... One good thing is to not THINK too much on how that throat hurts, how you have that fever, I utterly detest the idea of thinking negatively, especially if you're not as physically neutral as you are used to be. This may be granted for some, but generally one can tend to do this.
One might bring up the topic of "healing" (as in spiritual skill) but I have no experience in this field so I will not speak of it.
[Edit:] After seeing Lotus's post below I got reminded of something: Socks. I wear socks in bed (whilst sleeping, duh) when I have a cold. I always wake up warm and sound, strangely I think it helps.
