When I set it down finally, it slithered across a ditch, then morphed into this really weird monster thing. But I wasn't afraid.

The second one was a couple nights ago. Again I had a non-venomous snake and was trying to figure out what to do with it. This time, I kind of remember that the snake was injured from me catching it.

In both cases I felt uncomfortable, like I would in real life, handling a snake. Not a big snake fan.

I suppose considering I'm going through a break up, it's easy to correlate the snake to my wife, at least as far as the situation. But I don't see her in any way as a snake in real life? So anyone got any ideas about this?

I have been getting animals in my dreams. Sometimes it's a dog, and that's easy, because I've been thinking for awhile that I will have another one eventually. Sometimes the symbols are pretty direct. Snakes must be less direct, because I don't have one and don't want one.
OK firstly,

You have the sweetest avatar image ever.

Secondly, the reason for why animals are just so symbolic is that people are able to directly attribute the animal's physical attributes and personalities to real life situations.

Snakes can be something represented as quite dangerous due to their stealthy techniques and ability to severely hurt at will. In your dream I feel it represents a danger that managed to find its way into your home. This "danger" can represent a whole lot of different things; from an actual physical danger, all the way to something or somebody trying to inflict emotional harm against you. At first, you didn't percieve this danger to be very severe. Lol what the hell is a generic snake?
The good part is, that you firstly found the danger in the first place. Suggesting your ability to notice when something is wrong. You then proceeded to relocate that danger outside of your home, meaning not only had you identified the danger, but you then proceeded to get it away from you.

This is highly suggestive that the danger you firstly perceived as something small was actually hiding its true colors, and was in fact concealing something much more threatening and somewhat 'alien' to you.

The fact that it happened again; found its way back into your home, means that you didn't learn your lesson the first time. Simply relocating the danger wasn't enough. You needed to perform some kind of preventative measures.
The fact that the snake was injured suggests that this 'danger' was in some way hurt by the act of your catching it out. It could also represent that the second time you found it, you decided to act a lot more harshly against it.

You believe this dream correlates with your break-up and is quite important we therefore focus on exactly that. Don't just look at your dream on an external level and decide "well my wife doesn't really remind me of a snake..". Dreams operate on so many levels it's not funny. Your subconscious mind may be directly interpreting your break-up with use of animals in order to more plainly send you a message.

From what I can read, it seems you may have possibly had a break-up with her in the past. You allowed her into your home. Some time later she may of started doing something to piss you off or otherwise instigate a break-up response. You however thought these were just average emotional dramas found in most other relationships. Just Generic upsets...
When you did send her walking the first time, you then realised those upsets weren't so generic and closer to fully-fledged monsters.

I guess you guys made up, and eventually decided to feel a differing of opinions again. This time the break-up was very harsh, and has left her emotionally and mentally "injured".

Unfortunately for you I am not a relationship advisor. I may only interpret your dreams. I don't like to go to far into relationships as they can be very volatile, or if you like; go either way.

Just don't be distressed with what you are seeing. Emotional dramas affect us on every level imaginable...
