We have one musical each year (the music teachers voulenteer! hurray!) and some of them write a script and organizes actors, costumes and all, and then some teachers play along with students "behind the carpet", so that it's not playback, but actual people playing. Then it gets profesionally filmed and produced.. and stuff. We're quite lucky!
Last year was a Michael Jackson based musical, which was nice, but the Beatles one topped it for me
