I'm sure you'll have other suggestions on this forum, but you can request a MBO to be able to stay on your "soul contract" or soul path for the highest learning in this life.
If you stay on your soul contract--that path YOU decided to try and stay on before birth to get the most out of this life on earth, then yes there are times when you request something that will not happen because it's not on your soul path.
As an example, I tried to put together the financing for several movies based on some spy novels written in WWII by a gentleman named Chaney in the UK. I went to St. Petersburg, Prague, Budapest, Cannes, Paris and L.A. trying to put together the financing, but each time it would fall apart for the strangest reasons. Finally I asked my GA Theo why it happened when I was requesting MBO's each time. He replied that it was not on my soul contract, and that I would reach many more people with my books and writing than I ever would have with the movies.
And the only way to know is to start communicating with your GA. You GA will NEVER tell you to take this path or that path--that's what requesting MBO's are for. Our souls have instructed these golden light beings to not advise, only to assist in a most benevolent manner, WHEN WE ASK, and as long as it does not interfere with our soul contracts (that's what my GA calls them). I still don't know what my soul contract is for the rest of my life--challenges, successes, etc., as my GA says it would be a dull life if we knew everything in advance.
