Here's an absolute classic! A guy that was my best mate around 30 years ago, was fairly recently the only winner of the $20,000,000.00 Powerball prize. I knew him really well, and back then, we were famous for being 'hopeless' with money. We blew every cent, and borrowed our way from pay to pay. The only relevance of that is, that I know that he had no, not the slightest interest or thoughts about lotteries. None. So I hadn't seen him in 20 odd years, and he tells me the story. He had built up a little graphic arts business, and had just sold it. On the way home, he was feeling pretty good, but wondering about the future. He stopped into a newsagent, to buy a paper, drink and a bag of chips, when he sees a sign saying 20.000,000 Powerball jackpot. He just off handedly tells the lady to 'give us one of those' as well, and she says its drawn that same night. The only ticket he's ever bought in his life. No second thought about it, just ' give us one of those'. Later that night his family is watching tv, and he sees the lottery draw is on a little bit later, but his wife wants to change the channel. He sings out to his daughter if she could write down the numbers from the tv in her room. completely forgets about it. Later the daughter comes in and tosses the numbers on his lap. He checks off the numbers casually while concentrating on the tv, as the show is reaching the climax. Next thing he's got the winning numbers. He's trying to tell his wife and daughter, but they are telling him to 'shut up', as the tv show is about to end! Hilarious.
What I get out of it, particularly as I know the guy really well, is a rare, completely honest, genuine case of utter, total lack of doubt, worry, disbelief. Unconsciously and consciously from him. Just totally uninhibited, pure, 'give us one of those'. And thats it...no other thought concerning it, hindering it whatsoever. It's really interesting to me anyway. So are the reactions of some of the people we know! One other thing I think is important, from my point of view, is that I was totally, genuinely stoked out of my head for him!
