I do believe being rich is indeed a state of mind. If you have an abundance mentality, you are already rich because you're not lacking anything.

We are far from rich, in the traditional sense people might think of it, like we don't have a million dollars. But we have more than enough to live on and basically do what we want to do, when we want to do it.

The secret there is to not want much, and we don't. We're not into expensive stuff, or the latest fashions or fads. My kids kind of think we are rich because we always seem to have the money to do what we want to do. (Yeah they're pretty spoiled!) But, other people making the same amount of money as we do, would be struggling and perhaps even in debt.

We've always made enough to not have to live paycheck to paycheck (other than some very tough years when my husband was in law school full time and I was a stay at home mom...those years SUCKED!). We keep lots in the bank so it's there if/when we ever need it.

So back to the original question, yes, being rich is a state of mind. But it's all related to "wanting" or not wanting as the case may be. That's why I have to shake my head and laugh when I read so many posts here about wanting to make a million dollars by age whatever. Why? Who needs a million dollars?

That's completely the wrong goal. The goal should be to have everything you really (really really really) want. And that's easy -- just adjust what you want!
