Volleyball!!! Yayyy!!!! Lightthecandle, I like you even more now!!! Volleyball,, ahhhh,, , volleyball.... isn't it the most wonderful thing?
I was the best in my 8th grade class, too! Mostly because I was the tallest girl, I think. After high school, I played a little through my 20's (of course I switched to beach v-ball!) but then drifted away from it.
In my early 40's I moved back to the beach at Southern California and thought I'd like to play again, but worried that I was too old, that no one would want to play with me, oh, oh, oh, the old chicken opera. So I invented the possibility for myself of Partnership, and I strode myself down a beach class and threw myself in to lessons. I wasn't the oldest person out there, but no one seemed to even pay attention to that, anyway (except for me.) I developed a whole network of people who became really passionate about playing -- like, for 8 hours every Saturday and Sunday. As I lay in bed, my body would feel the passion of playing as if it were sexual desire. Once I spiked my boyfriend's head in my sleep. Sorry, baby. Some of the best friends I've ever made are the folks with whom I share this passion -- mostly they are people in their 20's. What I lack in youthful agility, I make up for in the hard-won machiavellian cunning that comes with experience!
I've had to cut down because 16 hours a weekend turned my feet into chopped liver, but the passion has not abated. It's an incredible way to build comraderie and a healthy body and just unabated joy.
DO NOT HESITATE to join this team!!!! Go, baby, go!! You will be so grateful to yourself, and you'll feel a sense of your own courage, power, and joy.
and take good care of your feet! |
