I've often wondered what's going on when you are in a 'stare'.

You know, when you are staring off into space and someone invariably says, "Penny for your thoughts?" which snaps you out of the stare...and you've no idea what you were just thinking, if anything at all.

I suspect it's a no-thought zone and we do it quite naturally and spontaneously on a regular basis.
