What are spirits?:
Since I'm a scientist i can partly, both agree and disagree with you. If spirits are consisted of "atomic particles" they would have to have mass and there for they wouldn't be what they are now. in eg. they wouldn't be able to pass through the walls or fly, in the other word they would be affected by the law of gravity.Gravity is interection betwean all things that have mass, or other words are made of atomic particles. But if they were waves, standing waves, with their own energy source they would exist. It could in a way be explained by the "String Theory" by Steven Hawking.
People who can see spirits?: I think everyone can see spirits, but it is matter of how much are the eyes of a person trained, able to focus or unfoucs.
On many sites over the internet it is said that it would be easier to see spirits and energy fields with your eyes unfocused. I hold in my belif that everyone can see spirits. If you had baby brother or sister when you were at age about 4 or 6, Your parents told you to place your head much closer to the babies than to the other people becous a new-born's eye's are "new" and are unfocused. It is known that children " can feel or see" "spirit or unmaterial beings" better that adults. THere for this can be proof that the soul or spirit is
"inserted in Phisical body" and after the birth spiritual sight(unfocust eye's) is
adjusting itself to new enviorment or Awareness is shifting form Higher plains into the lower.
