I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I was speaking of humans. For pets, they're so dependent on our kindness, I believe it makes sense for us to help them alleviate their suffering, if that becomes necessary. (we keep them alive longer than they probably would in the wild, so we need to take responsibility for their quality of life.)
