Default Number of goals to set at once.

Hey!
Read around a bit and decided to make my first post

One area about goal setting which is really confusing me right now is to choose the number of goals to follow at once. A lot of motivational gurus talk about setting one goal at a time, get complete clarity on that one goal and visualize it. Visulizing more than one goal creates confusion, according to them.

All the above makes a lot of sense. But at the same time I don't really understand how can one follow only one goal at a time. Wouldn't that lead to a really unbalanced life? If I look at my life I think I will always have some sort of financial goal. Now if I take the approach of only one goal at a time I'd only be pursuing my financial goals my entire life. And other areas of my life will detoriorate as result.

Can someone explain this to me. Am I understanding this correctly? I'd really appreciate any help.
