There are several individuals who work out of their homes for me doing legal transcription. Medical transcription can also be done from home. You need to be able to type accurately and with speed and you need to have a good word processing program. You should also be familiar with legal and/or medical terminology. There are courses you can take, if you are not already familiar with these. For example, most hospitals offer medical terminology courses as part of their education programs. Technical schools also offer medical and/or legal terminology courses.

This type of work is paid by the page so the more you produce, the more you make. Some larger court reporting firms use transcriptionists who are located all over the country. They simply email copies of wav files to the transcriptionist and the finished transcript is emailed back. You never have to leave home. You can work in your jammies
