I have accepted responsibility for volumes of things I did and said, particularly during the 30 years of my own alcoholic follies. It was a few years ago when I realized that my wife was literally reliving the unfinished business her parents have left behind. I observed the same in me, though it was a bit harder to bring it out in the open.
Both my boys went to a preschool where they learned this song
"Clean up, clean up,
everybody, everywhere,
Clean up, clean up,
Everybody do your share"
This has become my spiritual mantra since. We take the good stuff from previous generations, and overcome some of their short-comings. The question is only why some apparently have to work so much harder than others. Well, God only knows.
