In Australia it's not customary to tip, nor required since staff are usually paid good hourly rates. So most of the time I don't unless the service is truly deserving, i.e., friendly, engaging, prompt.
I really like that some people are willing to put in the effort to provide good service even when they know they probably won't get a tip out of it (especially when a few places divide tips amongst the staff rather than giving it directly to the person who earned the tip).
