Posting your progress has two advantages... it does motivate others... and it forces you to outdo yourself so that you can be a true example... and it has nothing to do with "bragging" since you know that you'll probably get more criticism than praise...
And, being able to handle criticism... is also the hallmark of a leader and a champion...
