You argured that Common Sense should rule decisions. Standarts are something different.

Those companies use scientific thinking in that process. The don't prejudge different approaches based on "common sense" but measure the effect different practices have and keep the best.
Nasa for example who spends a lot in training their employes tested Photoreading. They found that it isn't useful for learning knowledge.

What exactly is your problem with the Michelson and Morley experiment?
