You were probably tuned in at a frequency where you could hear the chatter of spirits. Had you "been ready" you might have had a really interesting and possibly terrifying
experience. What you describe used to happen to me a lot. It's like being stuck on a radio dial in between stations and hearing multiple stations at the same time.
