You and I think a lot alike, my friend. I just finished reading The Secret, which foregoes scientific analysis in favor of entertainment and motivation. Was it a good book? Sure. Do I agree with many of its points? Yes. Am I convinced that the law of attraction operates on a metaphysical level, as its proponents claim? Well... I'm not so sure.
My feeling is that an in-depth, scientific explanation of the law of attraction would have been harder to write, harder to read, and harder to sell. So I suppose we are left to find other sources of information if we want to explore further.
I am neither for nor against the law of attraction, but I recognize many possible explanations for its practice (and perceived success) within the field of psychology, such as selective retention. And there is no denying that positive thought may motivate us to take positive action, which can lead to positive results.
There are a handful of paragraphs within The Secret that mention the importance of "taking action," but the book focuses on the metaphysical powers of thought, so that's what people take away from it.
By the way, Shamou, I actually saw a documentary once that depicted the towel drying monks. I'm not kidding. It was one of the most incredible things I'd ever seen. The monks were kneeling in the snow in weather that was said to have been cold enough to cause a man to freeze to death, and the documentary suggested that the power of their thoughts kept them warm. But here's the rub: the world is full of charlatans trying to sell things to the naive, and I do not know whether this documentary was made honestly. If it was real, it's incredible. But I have no idea.
