As someone who has been to university and has a degree, I think many uni students delude themselves into believing that a degree guarantees success later in life. The truth is, in many professions once you are in the front door no one cares about your degree.
Degrees mean different things to different people. For some it is just a bit of paper they get after 3 years of partying, socialising and the occasional bit of study. For others, it is the culmination of 3 years of hard work. The latter are the ones who will more than likely go on to success.
My advice: don't focus so much on the university degree, rather focus on the things you mention such as discipline and purpose.
