I have a suggestion for your mom:
Have her create a mental ritual that she does every night before she goes to sleep. She could visualize a shield of light surrounding her and her bed that will protect her. If she'd prefer, she could imagine angels surrounding her as she sleeps. If she prays, she could ask for protection at night. She could imagine a pack of wolves guarding her. There are other possibilities, too. The important thing is that she comes up with something that appeals to her. It doesn't have to be long or complicated; just a short moment of asking/imagining.
