Actually we are not just now making sense of it. It has been talked and written about for centuries. The term "law of attraction" and putting it in those terms is relatively new. People have been reacting as if this were some fantastic revelation and really it's not new at all. Marketing companies have just found different ways of putting it out there.
Another quote along these lines from the bible is "You reap what you sow". Same idea.
