Strange meditation experience? Perfectly normal meditation experience?
I am a completely novice meditater. I've thought about it and researched it for over a year now... maybe over two years, and played with it a little, but never actually done any meditating. But recently I've determined that my bottleneck in personal development is in the spiritual side, and so I've committed to a 30-day trial of meditating for 5 minutes every day. (Not much, but more than I can do consistently.)
Anyway, I sat down in my meditation space today, set the timer, and began focusing on my breath. After a few dozen breaths I felt a kind of tugging in my mind -- kind of like that little signal that says it's time to sleep. But when I "followed" it, I didn't fall asleep. It just kept kind of going deeper and deeper. I was definitely still aware of my surroundings - the ice cream truck going by - but also kind of deeper into my mind.
Is this normal? Is this of note? Or is this just my mind telling me funny stories because it's bored, so it's something I need to ignore and move past? I know I didn't describe it well, because I don't really have words for it - I'm kind of hoping you do.
Thanks for your help.
