Thank you for creating this thread. I have often felt like an alien or an outsider. People are also often confused or offended by the way I behave while I intended no offense.
Most people don't understand why I don't have a cell phone (I do have a regular phone though). Cell phones are terrible in that they abruptly take you out of the moment and put you somewhere else. I aways hate it when I'm out with a friend, they get a call on their cell phone, and completely ignore me for the next few minutes or so. The message that is sent is that the potential for something else in the future is more important than the present moment; that, and I think it's rude.
I think it is odd that some believe that introverts don't like being with other people. I'm an introvert and I don't like being alone. Of course, I am uncomfortable around groups of people too. It seems that I have a need for the presence of others, even when I don't wish to interact with them.
