Not familiar with subliminals (although Steve endorses "Paraliminals" -- see the site), but I've had a lot of success using relaxation/hypnosis MP3's. There are two free ones on the Internet I'm aware of -- one at paulmckenna.com (it's called "trance sample") and one at effective learning systems (google it) called "alpha break."
Every day after I work out, I listen to one of these while I'm stretching. I credit them with helping boost my confidence, helping me generate some great ideas for improving my life, and keeping motivated.
